The world of arts, entertainment, history and culture of Memphis, Tennessee
is just minutes away from EZ DAZE RV Park. Explore the history of Rock 'n' Roll
at Elvis Presley's Graceland and Sun Studio. See
the horticultural wonder of the Memphis Botanic Garden and the
wonders of nature at the Memphis Zoo. All this and much more await
you in Memphis, Tennessee!
It first rang out over the cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta. It
migrated to the streets and clubs of Memphis. It went on to influence
the sound of music all over the world. Memphis is the Home of the Blues and the
Birthplace of Rock n Roll. And it all starts here on Beale Street.
Graceland is the beautiful 14-acre estate and colonial mansion purchased by
legendary Rock 'n' Roll singer Elvis
Presley shortly after his breakthrough into the pop charts in 1957. Graceland
became more than a home to Elvis and his family & friends; it served as a headquarters
for his artistic pursuits and a repository for his grand collections. Today, the estate
is open to tours and has become a destination for hundreds of thousands of tourists over
the years that come to see how he lived and enjoy the offerings of the museum, gift
shops and more.
There's another Graceland to be found outside of Memphis. Graceland Too is
located east of Southaven in Holly Springs, Mississippi. This museum pays tribute to The King
of Rock 'n' Roll with an extensive memorabilia collection that covers the walls (and
ceilings) of the pink plantation-style home. The Record Room displays several hundred
45-rpm records. The home entertainment room offers a catalog of Elvis Presley mentions
in TV Guide and the performer's "most valuable recording" - a cardboard 45 that is one
of only a dozen presumed to exist. Out back is "The Prison Yard," a backyard being
made-over to look like the prison from "Jailhouse Rock."
Sun Studio is called the "Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll" - and rightly so.
In 1954 an 18-year-old Elvis
Presley ambled into the recording studio and, when asked who he sounded
like, Elvis famously said, "I don't sound like nobody." From this opening statement,
a musical legend was born. Take an impressive audio/visual tour of the legendary
studio where Elvis, Jerry
Lee Lewis, Roy
Orbison and Johnny
Cash and other Rock 'n' Roll music legends began their careers.
